Marnie L. Kaplan, M.Ed., Founder

After graduating from The University of Maryland with a degree in Consumer Economics and working in the marketing field for a few years, Marnie pursued her true passion. She returned to school to receive her Masters in Education from The American University in Washington, D.C. It was during her course work at American University that she became involved with Sally Smith and The Lab School of Washington, D.C. After working in mainstream classroom in both Prince George’s and Montgomery counties, Marnie became a Reading Specialist. From there, it was an easy step to her true passion...working individually with students whose needs were not being met in their current academic environment. Thus, in 1998, It’s Elementary was founded. She currently works with students in grades K-12 meeting a variety of needs including executive functioning and study skills, written output, mathematics, reading comprehension and fluency.

Abbi Coach

Abbi has lived in Montgomery County, Maryland her entire life. She attended University of Maryland for her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Towson University for her Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Upon graduation from college, Abbi began working with Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), and has worked with the country for ten years. For the last eight years, Abbi has been tutoring in her spare time, and has worked with students as young as five years old. She is highly qualified to teach math from Pre-K through Algebra 1 and supports students in mathematics, executive functioning, and organizational skills. Abbi lives in Germantown and is available for tutoring on a flexible schedule.

Albert Coach

Albert is an experienced math and science tutor with over 23 years of tutoring experience As a tutor for the Lab School of Washington, DC for over 15 years, he has extensive knowledge and experience working with students with learning disabilities including dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADD/ADHD, and executive functioning deficiencies. Albert tutors all levels of Math from Intermediate Math through Second year Calculus in addition to all sciences including Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Physics. Albert obtained a BS in Biomedical Engineering (BME) with a minor in Electrical Engineering (EE) and currently works as a Biomedical/Engineer for the US FDA. Furthermore, he has achieved a Masters of Science in EE, as well as a D.Sc. in EE all the while working full time, tutoring, and teaching Tae Kwon Do (Korean Martial art). Albert maintains the philosophy that tutoring cannot be limited to the skill at hand but understanding the larger concept and learning how to apply these concepts to the core objectives of the class.

Amy Coach

Amy holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Rhode Island in Human Development and Family studies as well as a Masters in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. She began her career working at the Katherine Thomas School supporting students who needed support navigating social situations, managing strong emotions and staying on task throughout the school day. She spent several years working with children and adolescents assisting them in the management of social skills, anxiety, executive functioning and organization. Using an integrative approach with parents, school staff and other educational supports, Amy provides a unique set of interventions to enhance the well being of students. As a mom of three and therapist, Amy's strengths include emotional guidance, problem solving skills, executive functioning support, play therapy, coping skills, anger management and stress reduction strategies. She has experience working with with students with Aspergers Syndrome, Autism and general learning disabilities. Strengthening the teacher/school alliance and collaboration between education and social work remains one of Amy's primary goals. Amy is available to support students either within their school day or after school.

Audrey Coach

Audrey is an experienced educator in the high school and middle school grades. She taught English Literature for four years at The Field School in Washington, D.C., and three years at Heritage High School in Newport News, Virginia. She now serves as a Reading Specialist at Charlottesville City High School in Virginia. She has in-depth experience supporting students with individual learning profiles, learning differences, ADD & ADHD, and executive functioning skills. She has co-taught with Special Educators, coached novice teachers in their profession, and implemented best practices of differentiation and Universal Design for Learning. After studying English and Creative Writing at Dickinson College, she pursued her Masters of Arts in Teaching Secondary Education at Johns Hopkins University. She has additional experience teaching English Literature and Language, Elementary French, College Essay Composition, and preparation for Virginia State Standardized Tests (Reading SOL, Writing SOL, and LPA Assessments).

Becca Coach

Becca is an experienced teacher, teacher educator, and tutor who specializes in literacy, writing, research, organization and study skills, and social studies content. In over a decade in the classroom in independent, district (FCPS), and charter schools, she’s designed specialized instruction for students with ADD and ADHD, dyslexia, executive function disorders, and anxiety as well as English Language Learners and holds a Special Education certification from DC. Her teaching experience includes the full range of social studies courses, including AP and IB classes, the IB Theory of Knowledge seminar, executive functioning and study skills support courses, and college-and-career application preparation. Becca’s approach to tutoring begins with questions to foster relationships and learn how individual students think, always building from their ideas and insights to deliver personalized support. She draws on her deep knowledge of cognitive science to make learning “sticky” and help students understand themselves as learners. Becca graduated summa cum laude from Bowdoin College with a BA in History and German and a teaching minor and holds an M.Ed. from Harvard Graduate School of Education in Teaching & Learning. Besides tutoring, she also teaches and coaches new teachers for the Harvard Teaching Fellows program, where she leads instruction on literacy, project-based learning, and inquiry.

Bethany Coach

Bethany is a seasoned and passionate high school mathematics teacher who has taught a highly diverse group of students for the past 10 years in Chicago, Washington DC and now in Maine. She has taught all levels of HS math from Algebra 1 to AP Calculus AB and IB Math AI, as well as SAT prep. She firmly believes all students can learn any math topic, and enjoys working 1-on-1 with students to develop their math skills, conceptual understanding and ultimately their confidence. To this end, she routinely works to adapt lessons to an appropriate level of challenge for students and is adept at scaffolding lessons to support learners, as well as creating open ended extension questions to push students’ thinking. Bethany holds a Bachelors degree in Math Education and French from Messiah University and a Masters of Educational Technology from Michigan State University. Outside of work, you might find her on an Ultimate Frisbee field, or in a hammock reading a novel for fun.

Betsy Coach

Betsy is an experienced Elementary Math teacher who has taught in Baltimore City Schools for fifteen years. She holds degrees from University of Hartford, Goucher College, Johns Hopkins University and Loyola College of Maryland. Betsy has experience working with students of varied skill levels and abilities from learning disabilities including autism, executive functioning disorders and ADD/ADHD to twice exceptional and gifted and talented. During her career, she has mentored many intern teachers from Johns Hopkins University, Goucher College, Urban Teachers of America and the Maryland Institute of Art. In 2019, she received the Teacher as Leader for Gifted and Talented Education from the State of Maryland and was hired by Baltimore City Schools to write the Gifted Math Overlay for the Eureka Math curriculum. Betsy has worked with many curriculums, including Eureka Math, EngageNY, Singapore Math, Houghton Mifflin, William and Mary Gifted Math curriculum and the Project M3: Mentoring Mathematical Minds for Grades 3-6. Betsy is currently teaching in a virtual setting, so she is very adept at teaching math using online tools and applications. Betsy has a flexible nightly tutoring schedule.

Caryn Coach

Caryn began her training at the University of Rochester, with a semester in London at a Private School. She went on to receive a Masters in Special Education from American University, where her coursework with Sally Smith and the Lab School gave her the necessary foundation to work with students with Learning Disabilities. She spent the start of her career as a Middle School Special Education teacher in Fairfax County. While she loved being in a classroom, she enjoyed providing the one-on-one support even more. She left teaching to have a family, but kept her hand in the education world through private tutoring and coaching work. While supporting these students through re-teaching, adapting, and helping them grow, she found her true calling. One-on-one she could best meet their individual needs, helping them learn through the means that best suited the individual student. Taking all of this experience, Caryn has been able to significantly impact students at all different levels. She currently works with students in grades 6-12 addressing fundamentals such as improving executive functioning, which she feels is a building block for success. Caryn provides individualized attention in a range of subjects including math, written expression across a range of content areas, test prep and study skills. "I’m lucky to be able to do what I love each day, and have a impact on so many lives."

Christy Coach

Christy has been teaching high school mathematics since 2006 and considers teaching math to be her dream job. Christy obtained a BS in Pure Mathematics from the College of Charleston. During her time in college, she tutored in the Math Lab and began a lifelong love of helping students understand mathematics. After graduation, she began teaching and even designing a course for students that combined mathematics, music, and art. She then earned a Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary Education from the Grand Canyon University. As a teacher, she absolutely loves the moment when a student finally understands and you can see the light bulb goes off in their head. Christy has taught Geometry, Algebra 2, Algebra 2 with Trig, Statistics, AP Statistics, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and AB Calculus.

Conrad Coach

Conrad grew up in Prince Georges County, graduating from Northwestern High School. He went on to graduate from the University of Maryland - College Park with a BA - Secondary Mathematics Education degree and later from Bowie State University with an MEd - Administration & Supervision degree. After 37 years he retired from public education after teaching Mathematics in middle and high schools for 16 years, then serving students as Supervisor of Instruction in Mathematics K-12 in several counties in Maryland. He retired after serving as principal at the middle school and high school levels. Among other curricular advances, Conrad was a part of the team that created the curriculum for Algebra II in Anne Arundel County that first utilized the graphing calculator as a tool for investigating mathematics. Conrad has the philosophy that all students can learn, access and use mathematics to understand the world they live in. "We work hard to unlock the processes a student uses best, to access their learning and build on these strengths, all the while working to have the students broaden the spectrum of their approaches." Conrad looks forward to helping students remotely, as they work towards their goals. Subjects: Middle School Math, Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry.

Drea Coach

Drea began her tutoring career when she was an undergrad at University of Minnesota as a teaching assistant in General College's Math Center. After graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science in Microbiology with minors in physics, math, and chemistry, she worked in labs for a time. Science is very rewarding; however, science is mostly solitary work. Drea remembered how much she loved helping students learn in college. She worked for a few small educational companies that did high school homework support, ACT preparation courses, summer enrichment including a robotics class, and seminars on studying. Over 15 years ago, Drea became a private one-on-one tutor. She has helped hundreds of high school and college students with algebra, calculus, statistics, chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, and physics including AP and IB courses. Her philosophy and role as a tutor is to demonstrate different approaches to problems and praise the student to success.

Dustin Coach

Dustin grew up and completed his grade school education in Washington County, MD. He graduated from Williamsport High School where, with the help of strong math teachers, he came to love Mathematics and wanted to become a teacher. Dustin earned his Bachelor's Degree from Towson University in Secondary Education with the concentration in Mathematics and Social Studies. Recently, Dustin completed his Master's program at Towson University and earned his degree in Educational Leadership. Dustin has been a secondary education math teacher for the last 10 years at two school districts in the state of Maryland. He taught five years at Edgewood Middle School in Harford County working in 7th grade for 3 years and 8th grade for 2 years. While at Edgewood, he taught Math 7, Math 8, Pre-Algebra, and Honors Algebra 1 courses. Dustin spent the last five years of his career at Parkville High School in Baltimore County. During his time at Parkville, Dustin taught Algebra 1, Honors & GT Algebra 2, and Honors College Algebra. Since his time in college, Dustin has spent time privately tutoring students at both the middle and high school level. Dustin has spent time working with students of all mathematical levels but especially students with learning disabilities, including ADHD, English language learners, and students with anxiety pertaining to confidence with mathematics. Over his career, Dustin finds ways to meet the learning needs of all his students and to develop strategies that best help meet their learning needs in mathematics. Dustin has a coaching background from Parkville High School in boys basketball and outdoor track & field. His coaching background helps him motivate and build confidence in students in the classroom just like he would on the court or athletic field. Seeing students build confidence and achieve success is a passion that Dustin strives to reach with all of his students!

Emily Coach

Emily grew up in the area and attended Norwood School and Holton Arms. She went on to earn a BA English at Bates College, MAT (Masters in Teaching) at Tufts University, and MA English from Middlebury College. She has been teaching for 13 years in both public and private schools including The Potomac School and Langley School, with focus on grades 7th -12th grade in English. Shifting to private tutoring, Emily has worked with students in grades 2 through 12. Although she continues to support English and writing skills, she has broadened her clientele to include all aspects of learning. She has worked with students using Handwriting Without Tears, reinforcing emerging math skills, social skills, pre-reading skills as well as reading intervention for the past five years through her tutoring. She loves getting to know each child and finding the best strategies that work for him/ her. She believes every student can find individual strategies and skills to build confidence and find success. She loves working individually with students in order to find a learning plan to provide ownership, and ultimately independence in the learning process. She is excited to help students develop reading and writing skills, provide executive functioning support, and academic coaching. Additionally, Emily has three children at home and has been actively engaged with their learning. Emily lives in Chevy Chase and is available for tutoring on a flexible schedule.

Erinn Coach

Erinn is a native Washingtonian and alumna of the Holton-Arms School. She attended Duke University with pre-med intentions, but a developmental psychology course inspired her to pursue a B.A. in Psychology. The following semester, an educational psychology course ignited her passion for teaching, and she added a Certification in Elementary Education. Erinn taught overseas at the International School of Brussels and then returned to engage young learners through a unique, museum-based curriculum at the Smithsonian. With the desire to support struggling students, she moved to a private speech and language therapy center in Bethesda Md to implement one on one interventions tailored to enhance cognitive learning skills. Recognizing these children’s and adolescents’ additional need for targeted reading fluency and comprehension instruction, Erinn began her Masters in Reading Education through the University of Virginia. She completed her degree while tutoring students in social studies, science, and writing at the Episcopal Center for Children, a school for children with emotional and behavioral challenges. She spent the next three years as the Center’s lead Reading Specialist. Erinn is currently the Editorial Consultant for a private college counseling group, guiding high school seniors through the college essay writing process. She is also working toward certification as an Academic Therapist through the Atlantic Seaboard Dyslexia Education Center (ASDEC) to target executive functioning and study skills as well as provide Orton-Gillingham-based approaches to teaching reading, spelling, and writing. Erinn believes that each student brings unique experiences, unique interests, unique strengths, and unique challenges. After almost 20 years as an educator, her strength is being both creative and adaptable while tapping her experience and training to engage and support the diverse needs of her students.

Erin L. Coach

Erin is a Spanish teacher, 12th Grade Advisor, and Volleyball Coach at The Field School and is focused on the student experience in all aspects of her job. Her teaching style is energetic and relational as she strives to help each student feel seen, heard, and valued. She has spent several years working with middle and high schoolers, assisting them in finding strategies to manage learning differences, and anxiety, executive functioning, and organizational challenges as they apply not only to foreign language but all classroom experiences. Erin has experience tutoring a mixture of all levels of Spanish, conversational ESL, and executive functioning over the past seven years, and loves to see the difference that one-on-one support can make in a student’s confidence and learning. Erin holds a B.A. in Spanish International Studies from Elon University.

Finn Coach

Finn graduated from the University of Virginia in 2017 with a Bachelor’s degree in Classics and Linguistics. He has taught fifth-grade homeroom and high school Latin at the Heights School in Potomac, MD since 2017. He also has led numerous high school and college study abroad programs/tours in Greece and Italy since 2022. He believes firmly that true learning comes from a personal relationship between teacher and student, and excels at making the necessary connections to enable learning with all types of students. He has found success working with students with ADHD, executive function disorders, school resistance, and everywhere in between. In addition to working individually to set each of his students up for personal success in school and after, Finn has also designed numerous classes for the elementary and high school curricula at The Heights, where he currently serves as the secretary of the school’s Classics department. Since 2017, he has been a personal, 1-on-1 mentor to over 100 students, and hopes to be of assistance to many more as he continues to teach and to tutor.

Ingrid Coach

Ingrid grew up in Montgomery county where she discovered, as a student at Damascus Elementary, that her passion was to become a teacher. At Salisbury University she earned both her Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with concentration in Secondary Education and a Masters in Teaching Mathematics. Since 2008, Ingrid has been teaching high school mathematics in Maryland. She is currently teaching AP Statistics and Algebra 2 at Sherwood High School. She has also taught Honors Pre-Calculus and Algebra 1. In the past couple years Ingrid began tutoring after school and during the summer. She specializes in tutoring in the above subjects as well as SAT/ACT Math, and the SAT II Math test. Ingrid also has a passion for teaching students with learning disabilities, English language learners and students with math anxiety. Over the years she has developed many organizational and learning strategies catered to students of all levels of learning. Ingrid’s goal is to guide students to build confidence in their mathematics abilities, and empower students to believe that when they work through struggle it will ultimately lead to success!

Hava Coach

After graduating from the University of Maryland with degrees in criminology/criminal justice and Jewish studies, Hava realized this was not her passion. She had taught Hebrew school throughout college and loved working with children. She immediately switched gears to become a teacher. Hava received a Master's Degree in Jewish Education from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America while simultaneously passing all of the required New York State elementary education tests. She spent one year working in NYC before realizing how expensive NYC really is!

 

Hava returned to Maryland and taught in a private Jewish elementary school. While there, Hava taught Hebrew and Judaics to Kindergarten through fifth grade. During this time, she used the Handwriting Without Tears Hebrew version to teach her students print and cursive. Hava loved this curriculum and saw how beneficial it was to her students and became trained in the English version.

 

After five years teaching elementary school, Hava needed to find something closer to home since her family was expanding. She began teaching Pre-K and has been teaching Handwriting Without Tears, math skills, social skills, pre-reading skills as well as reading intervention for the past ten years. Hava can also tutor Eureka math which many of the local elementary schools are now using as their math curriculum.

 

Hava has also taught older children, seventh through tenth graders for the past 15 years. With the older children, Hava has taught a Holocaust class, Jewish ethics courses, a Jewish social media course and tough choices Jewish teen course.

 

Hava lives in Rockville with her husband and two elementary school aged children. She is available to tutor virtually throughout the day and some in person hours in the early evening. Hava is very excited to meet your children and succeed together!

Hazara Coach

Hazara is a currently a special education teacher in Montgomery County Public Schools. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and her master’s at Grand Canyon University. She currently works with elementary school children, but has experience working with middle and high school aged students as well. Hazara is trained in Orton Gillingham and Really Great Reading, which provide reading intervention services to children significantly below in reading. She also has experience with Eureka math and several math interventions as well. Hazara has worked as a tutor and home/hospital teacher outside of the classroom. In addition, Hazara works with students who need executive function support: social skills, organization, reading comprehension, prioritizing and focused efforts to get students “unstuck and on target.” She grew up in Montgomery County and continues to build her family there. She looks forward to changing the mindset of the next generation with good vibes only!

Heather Coach

Heather grew up in Montgomery County and graduated from Hood College in 1996. She has been teaching math for 22 years. She started teaching in middle school and taught middle school students for 15 years. She then decided to move to high school so she could pursue her passion of teaching higher level math. She is currently teaching AB Calculus and Pre-Calculus at Sherwood High School.

 

Because she has taught middle and high school, she is knowledgeable in all mostly all math subjects. These include: Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, and AB Calculus. Heather has been tutoring on and off for the past 18 years. She enjoys working one on one with math students and help them understand math topics that they find challenging. She recognizes that some students have “math-phobia”, and her goal is to help her students and clients get over this phobia by breaking concepts down. She wants her students and clients to realize that math can be fun!

Heather V. Coach

With over a decade of experience in education, I specialize in helping students develop critical thinking, research, and writing skills across a variety of subjects. I have taught high school U.S. Government & Politics, DC History, and senior capstone research courses, guiding students through complex concepts and independent projects. My background also includes teaching middle school social studies, university-level writing and history, and working with diverse learners in different educational settings. I offer tutoring in all AP Social Studies courses, U.S. Government & Politics, History (U.S. and World), Civics, Research and Argumentative Writing, and College Prep. Whether working with middle schoolers building foundational skills, high schoolers preparing for AP exams, or college students refining their research techniques, I adapt my approach to fit each student’s unique needs. I believe in making learning engaging, accessible, and confidence-building.

James Coach

James comes to the East Coast from San Diego. He was a Math for America Fellow at San Diego State University while earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. In his 11 years of teaching experience, the first three years were at Coronado High school and the remainder of time, up until 2022, he taught at Canyon Crest Academy. Aside from teaching courses from 9th grade math to AP Calculus BC, he created a post-Calc III math course that covered topics such as Group Theory, Number Theory, Combinatorics, and Complex Geometry. Much of the content for that course came from his studies for a Master’s Degree in Mathematics from San Diego State University. James has worked with students of all levels and backgrounds and will work with you to make sure the sessions give the most supportive experience possible.

Jess Coach

Jess is a well-skilled and experienced high school math teacher and tutor. She began her tutoring career dating back to when she was in high school herself and living in Westchester, New York. She tutored peers in Calculus all 4 years of college at the University of Delaware while receiving her Bachelors of Science in Mathematics and Secondary Education. After college, Jess worked in Loudoun County Public Schools teaching high school math for 3 years. While teaching, she received her masters in Educational Leadership at George Mason University while also continuing to tutor. Jess now lives in Washington DC, and is currently in her fourth year of teaching for Fairfax County Public Schools. Outside of teaching math, Jess also teaches one section of Leadership, and is in charge of her school's student government. She has tutored and/or taught Middle School Math, Algebra 1 (and honors), Geometry (and honors), Algebra 2, Algebra 2/Trig, Precalculus (and honors), IB Math Applications, and Calculus 1. Jess also has experience teaching/tutoring students with disabilities such as ADD/ADHD, Autism, and Emotional Disabilities. Jess values relationships in her teachings and is dedicated to connecting with students to help them grow, and reach their full potential. Outside of teaching and tutoring, Jess enjoys an active lifestyle with activities such as rock climbing (outside and indoors), hiking, skiing, and biking.

Jessica Coach

Jessica attended Drexel University in Philadelphia where she earned her Bachelors of Science in International Business and Marketing. After several years of working for the Federal Government, Jessica earned her Post Baccalaureate degree in Secondary Education and Language Studies from Stockton University in NJ. She has over 10 years’ experience as a highly qualified Spanish teacher, with a focus on middle and high school curriculum. She is a certified teacher in both New Jersey and Maryland with certifications in Spanish K-12, ESOL, Bilingual/Bicultural education and Elementary education K-5.


Currently, she is a Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Middle School teacher and World Language Chair for her school. Jessica’s strengths are teaching difficult concepts in an interactive and engaging way, making language learning applicable to the real world and making cultural connections for students. She loves to travel and has pioneered an extensive student travel program at her school. Taking students abroad to Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico.

Jill Coach

Jill is currently teaching Handwriting Without Tears to children in pre-K and fours classes at B’nai Israel Nursery School. She completed the Handwriting Without Tears Level 1 certification program that allows her to conduct handwriting assessments that can be used for an educational screening process in schools. The assessment can also be useful in helping to remediate handwriting problems with children of all ages. Previously I have taught Special Education and 3rd grade in Fairfax County Public Schools as well as 4th grade in Montgomery County Public Schools. I have two children, a son going into 4th grade and a daughter going into 1st grade. I taught both of them Handwriting Without Tears and I feel this is a wonderful program.

Joe Coach

Joe holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry from The University of Scranton and a Master’s Degree in Biomedical Ethics Policy and Advocacy from Georgetown University. Over the past seven years at Georgetown Preparatory School, Joe has taught a variety of science courses including Anatomy & Physiology, General Biology, and AP Environmental Science. In addition to teaching, Joe has focused and dedicated his efforts to curriculum development and the integration of technology into the classroom as the Instructional Technologist for Faculty and Students. Joe is available for science tutoring opportunities in the areas of Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, and Environmental Science. Joe resides in Bethesda, MD with his wife.

Joyce Coach

Joyce is a very organized person that thoroughly enjoys helping others to organize their routines and habits. She believes that this process takes time to develop by teaching small steps towards independence. She has been teaching for 18 years as a Special Education Teacher. She has both her Bachelors and Masters in Special Education. She teaches and coaches students that have learning disabilities, ADHD, executive functioning difficulties, autism, and dyslexia to name a few. She specifically coaches high school, college and nontraditional students to help them develop their executive functioning skills. Joyce is passionate about helping her students overcome the challenges that have gotten in the way of reaching their full potential. She has an adult son with ADHD and Executive Functioning Disorder. Having a son with similar disabilities has helped her empathize with her students and learn first hand the tools and strategies needed to help him. When she is not teaching or coaching, she is often traveling to see her youngest son play wheelchair basketball and adaptive track and field. In her spare time, Joyce loves to travel with her family. She loves to read, paint and play the piano.

Judith Coach

Judith is a highly experienced educator with over 15 years of experience as a teacher, tutor, curriculum developer and reading specialist. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with Medical Emphasis, she received a Master’s of Science in Early Childhood Education from the Bank Street College of Education in New York City and, subsequently, a Master’s of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction with a Reading Specialist Certification from the University of Maryland College Park’s Department of Education. Judith has been Board Certified in New York and Maryland. Judith began her career as an elementary school teacher. Over the past dozen years, however, Judith has focused on curriculum development and one-on-one education as a private tutor and home school educator. Though a general tutor for all areas of the curriculum including math, language arts, and study skills for elementary school-level students, she also uses her certification as a Reading Specialist to drive her students’ literacy skills in areas of decoding, writing, fluency, and reading comprehension. Judith has also worked as a Curriculum Specialist, and has been heavily involved in admissions evaluations, both as a school employee and as a consultant for parents. Judith has experience with testing and evaluation and diagnostic assessments, skills she uses in her everyday tutoring practice to help her clients achieve optimal results. Judith’s experience includes a wide range of clients, including students with educational challenges. Her patience, creativity, and analytical skills serve her and her students well. She often helps her students with executive functioning skills (organizational and study skills). She is devoted to cultivating intrinsic motivation and a love of learning in all her students. Judith’s approach is to combine her toolbox of skills – research-based theory and practice, classroom experience and continuing studies – into custom-made lesson plans and instruction designed to optimize her students’ educational development paying close attention to students strengths and personal interests. Judith has a close rapport with the families she tutors and enjoys and encourages frequent dialogue and communication. In her capacity as a tutor, curriculum specialist and educational advocate, Judith has been involved with developing, presenting and evaluating Individual Education Plans, providing expert testimony at due process hearings, advising DC service providers (including the Office of Special Education, Department of Mental Health, Office of State Superintendant of Education and the DC Public Schools) in their creation of evaluations and reports.

Karen Coach

After growing up in Bethesda and graduating from Holton-Arms, Karen earned a B.A. in English from Williams College and a M.A. in English from Boston College. Before moving to private tutoring, Karen taught 7th, 8th, and 9th grades for sixteen years at Holton-Arms and 6th and 8th grades from 2020-2022 at the Melvin J. Berman Hebrew Academy. She has worked with gifted learners, students with learning differences, and twice exceptional students. Karen uses multiple strategies until she finds the specific tools that help each student be successful. Karen especially enjoys coaching students with their written fluency and boosting their confidence as readers. She also can help students develop their executive functioning skills.

 

Karen lives with her husband and two daughters, who both graduated from B-CC High School, in East Bethesda. Her older daughter completed the I.B. Diploma. In addition to working with students, Karen serves on the board of the Children’s Chorus of Washington and volunteers with the Bethesda Historical Society. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, knitting, sewing, and making jewelry.

Karla Coach

Karla grew up going to Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) and has now worked for MCPS for nine years. She received her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the College of William and Mary and her Masters degree in Elementary Education from the University of Maryland. Karla is currently a 4th grade classroom teacher of all content areas, including Eureka Math. She is highly qualified to teach students in grades 1-6. Her strengths include implementing individualized learning objectives for students with special needs, making modifications and scaffolds for students, helping students develop executive functioning skills, and supporting students in any way possible to help them reach their goals. She also values fostering relationships with her students and creating safe learning environments. Karla has experience tutoring one-on-one and small groups. Her goal is to extend beyond what she does daily in her classroom to continue to help students with various strengths and needs.

Kata Coach

Kata is an experienced school administrator, teacher, curriculum developer, and tutor, who specializes in reading and writing instruction and organizational and executive function support. She has also worked closely with students with a range of learning differences including ADD and ADHD, executive function disorders, and dyslexia. Kata spent ten years at The Field School, teaching middle and high school English and Latin and serving as the head of 9th grade. Her teaching and tutoring style is student-centric, relational, and inquiry-driven. She views teaching and tutoring as the highest form of creative problem solving and loves figuring out what individual students need to flourish and thrive. Kata holds a BA in Classics from Bowdoin College and an M.Ed from Vanderbilt University.

Kate Coach

After graduating with her Bachelor of Arts from The George Washington University in 2017, Kate quickly discovered her passion for equitable education and earned a Master of Science in Education at Johns Hopkins University. Kate worked in a public charter school in Washington, DC for five years, where she started as a student teacher and was then hired as a Special Education teacher. Kate taught fourth and fifth grade Special Education for multiple years. She is certified in Elementary Education in grades PreK-6 and Special Education in grades PreK-12 in Washington, DC. Her favorite part of teaching Special Education was being able to provide one-on-one instruction and support for students with diverse learning needs. Kate has taught elementary Mathematics, English Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies and has worked closely with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADD/ADHD, and Specific Learning Disabilities in Math, Reading, and Writing. Kate has also worked with sixth and seventh grade students and loves tutoring all elementary and middle school grade levels and subjects. Her favorite part about teaching and tutoring is seeing a student’s sense of accomplishment and pride when they achieve a goal that they once thought was impossible. Kate is a patient and compassionate educator and loves helping students achieve academic goals, learn lifelong study habits, and discover their academic passions and strengths. She is passionate about working with students and families to ensure that students are successful in all of their academic endeavors. She is readily available with a flexible evening tutoring schedule.

Kristin Coach

Kristin received both her graduate and undergraduate degrees in Special Education from Penn State. Her graduate degree was in Early Intervention- infancy through preschool. She subsequently taught Special Education for 16 years in the Montgomery County Public School at RICA (the Regional Institute for Children and Adolescents) a program for students with severe Emotional Disabilities as well as two elementary schools in Silver Spring. Then, Kristin recognized the need to implement these “special education” strategies in the general population and therefore received her certification to teach in the kindergarten through 8th grade classrooms. Most of her time has been spent with upper elementary students although she has vast experience across all grade levels. She is currently a 4th grade teacher in Montgomery County. Kristin has taught students with learning disabilities using programs including Wilson, Phonics for Reading and Read Naturally; however, her true passion is working with students with behavioral challenges such as ADHD, sensory deficit disorders, and executive functioning needs. She finds that working with students in a 1:1 situation is a rewarding way to help kids reach their true potential.

Lindsey Coach

Lindsey is a Special Education teacher for District of Columbia Public Schools. She started her career in education while teaching English in Jordan. Thinking she wanted to go into foreign policy, she spent a year studying Arabic and taught English to pay for her lessons. She first moved to D.C. to work on an Arabic curriculum for the Marine Special Forces, and later, to write proposals at the same company. During this time, she couldn't quite step away from education and began working part-time as an academic coach and content tutor. After three years of this, she finally came to her senses and realized what she needed to do: jump in with both feet and become a teacher! She has since graduated with her Master's of Science in Education from Johns Hopkins University, taught for several years in DC charter and public schools in both general and special education English, and is again offering tutoring services part-time. Lindsey enjoys working with students on mindfulness-based anxiety management, organization, executive functioning skills, and literacy skills.

Mary Coach

Mary is a passionate, dynamic and energetic teacher who specializes in foundational reading skills, reading comprehension and reading fluency. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Connecticut and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Connecticut. She is certified in both Elementary Education and Special Education. Prior to her current position as a Reading Specialist, she was a Special Education teacher in Elementary school for 9 years. She has extensive knowledge about the special education process, how to plan and implement goals based on students’ individual needs and creating learning plans to target areas of growth. Mary is trained in the Wilson Reading System as well as Visualizing and Verbalizing. She has worked with a variety of students including students with severe to profound disabilities, dyslexia, autism, English language learners, learning disabilities and ADHD. Mary’s passion lies in helping students achieve their highest potential in reading and feel confident in their abilities through open dialogue and a team approach to set goals.

Matt Coach

Matt F., currently instructor of Spanish and English, earned his B.A. in Spanish/Sociology from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA in 1995, and began his teaching career that fall as a Spanish Instructor at Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, MA, a school that during his 7-year tenure was ranked as one of America's Outstanding High Schools by the U.S. News and World Report. After completing his Masters of Arts degree in Spanish from Middlebury College in 2005, he moved to Philadelphia in order to teach and coach at St. Joe's Prep. While there, Matt taught Spanish and English, coached football, established an exchange program, and directed the Community Service Corps. Finally, in the spring of 2012, Matt accepted a position to teach Spanish and ESL at Georgetown Prep; since his arrival in the nation's capital, Matt has established two additional service programs, led their exchange program, served as Department Chair at his school, and has also served as a instructor coach and trainer for teachers in the area. Throughout his career, Matt has remained an active tutor, and has witnessed time and again how the individualized instruction that an effective tutor offers can make all the difference in a student's confidence and success in school. Matt specializes in tutoring English, Spanish, College Essay Prep, ACT/SAT English, Reading and Writing, Executive Functioning and Test Preparation. Matt has experience working with a varied student population including gifted students as well as students with anxiety, ADD and Aspergers.

Megan Coach

Megan is a veteran teacher and tutor who spent almost twenty-five years teaching in the United States, Germany, and Mexico. During that time, she has taught every level of English classes including AP and IB, ESL, IGCSE, College Writing, Creative Writing, Sports Journalism, ELA and humanities classes, and SAT and ACT prep. She has worked on the national level grading standardized tests, including AP and state writing assessments. She specializes in organizational skills, breaking down larger projects into manageable pieces, reading comprehension, writing, research, study skills, and test preparation. She has worked in the classroom in international, private, and public charter schools, writing curriculum and designing specialized instruction for students who are English Language Learners as well as for students with ADD and ADHD, dyslexia, executive function disorders, and anxiety, and on top of her Maryland and DC teaching certifications, she also holds a Special Education certification from DC. Megan's approach to tutoring begins with relationship building to better understand and meet the needs of each student. She draws on her years of experience to help students prioritize and strategize to complete tasks and to push themselves as learners. Megan graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in English and Secondary Education with a minor in Journalism.

Michelle Coach

Michelle is a native of Montgomery County, Maryland and has spent her teaching career working near the area where she grew up. Michelle attended the University of Maryland College Park where she earned a BS in elementary education. She then went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from McDaniel College. Michelle has worked as a classroom teacher in grades 3-6 for 16 years. She has also led training in Universal Design for Learning and in best practices for STEM instruction. Michelle has also been trained in Orton Gillingham and in SMARTS Executive Functioning strategies such as promoting flexible thinking, motivation and goal setting, emotional regulation and self-monitoring. During her career, Michelle has devoted her time to developing meaningful relationships with her students. She believes that a strong teacher-student relationship is the foundation for a successful learning career. Michelle has focused her teaching on small groups and differentiated instruction, executive functioning strategies, writing support, social emotional learning and organizational skills. She also has an in-depth foundation in STEM and Eureka math instruction. Michelle prides herself on providing students with a variety of problem solving skills and strategies to use both inside and outside of the classroom.

Mollie Coach

Mollie has been teaching high school mathematics since 2009 and loves to share her culture with anyone she meets. She grew up speaking Spanish with her father and began to love the academics of the language in high school, then continued on to become a double major in college. Mollie obtained a BS in Elementary Education and BA in Spanish from Francis Marion University. During college, she had the opportunity to teach ESOL in both Central and South America. Her time in Arequipa, Peru and Guadalajara, Mexico helped shape her in both culture and language. While living in Mexico in 2008, Mollie received her TEFL Certification. Upon graduating from college, she became certified to teach Spanish K-12 and began her career as a high school Spanish teacher in South Carolina. Since 2009, she has taught every level of Spanish, Spanish 1 - Advanced, including both AP & IB Spanish classes. She has experience in the SC and TN public school systems; she has prepared students for proficiency tests such as ACTFL. Mollie also tutored all levels of Spanish at The Citadel from 2013-2016, as well as taught Conversational Spanish and Medical Spanish for a Community Education program from 2016-2020. She believes that teaching a World Language must include authentic resources as well as everyday conversational skills. She wants to prepare her students with the confidence to listen, read and speak Spanish as well as the confidence to travel and embrace culture.

Patrick Coach

Patrick grew up in Bethesda, MD where he attended Gerogetown Prep for high school. He went on to get his bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Engineering Science from Vanderbilt University and later a Masters in Accounting from Vanderbilt. After a few years working in Ernst & Young’s Assurance Practice, one of Patrick’s former high school teacher’s suggested he look into teaching high school. After an interview back at his alma mater in 2014, Patrick accepted a job teaching Math back at Georgetown Prep and has not looked back since. Patrick currently teaches Calculus, Geometry, and Macro and Microeconomics.

Pam Coach

Pam grew up in Maryland and attended Seneca Valley. She went on to the University of Maryland and earned a BS in Mathematics, and recently received a MS is Learning Design and Technology from University of Maryland College Park. She began her teaching career in Prince George’s County school where she worked with struggling students to remediate elementary and middle school math. She then moved to Good Counsel where she taught students with learning differences in their Ryken program as well as AP/IB Calculus. After the birth of her second child, she took years off from the classroom and tutored students in all levels of high school mathematics in their homes. After 7 years, she returned to the classroom in Carroll County where she taught Algebra 1 & 2, and SAT Prep for one year, but returned to in-home tutoring after the birth of her twins. During her years tutoring, she had great success working with students from middle school through college. Once her twins went to kindergarten, she did IT work for her family’s plumbing company, but after 3 years she realized that she missed working with students. She returned to teaching at Maryland International School where she taught the International Baccalaureate MYP & DP curriculum including HL Math Applications and Interpretations. During the COVID pandemic, she transitioned to Maryvale Preparatory school as a mathematics specialist. She worked within their program for students with reading based learning differences helping the students excel in mathematics understanding. During the summers, she tutored the students online to get them ready for their next math course. In 2023, she moved her family to St. Augustine and currently teaches Algebra, Pre Calculus, and College Algebra at St. Joseph Academy.

In the classroom, Pam believes in making math relevant to students by connecting it to the real-world. She prides herself on her ability to explain complex mathematical concepts in simple to understand terms. Her easy-going approach and love for students eases math anxiety amongst the most struggling mathematics students. She truly loves math and helping students have confidence in their math classrooms!

Rachel Coach

Believing that every child can learn math, Rachel has spent her teaching career focusing on students with special needs. This includes, but is not limited to, children with autism, ADD/ADHD, children with selective mutism, organizational differences, gifted and talented, and on-level learners. Rachel understands that being a child can be stressful and school can cause anxiety, so her approach is holistic. She truly wants to understand the needs of the child and family and tailor a plan for tutoring that makes life happier and more peaceful for all.
Rachel's educational background began at Towson University, where she earned her bachelors in education. From there, she has taught various levels of mathematics in 7th and 8th grade, as well as 12 years experience tutoring. Rachel has also earned a Masters in Leadership and Curriculum Development from the University of Maryland. She has also been teaching in Montgomery County for 8 years.
Rachel's clients love that she is an advocate for their child and will do what it takes to support in learning. She is available for by phone between sessions and really becomes a mentor for the child. Rachel's goal is to help to shape happy, well-rounded students. Rachel is excited to help in all math courses from elementary through pre calculus. Rachel can also help with English homework, test prep, and organizational skills.

Ramon Coach

Ramon graduated with a PhD in Chemistry from Montana State University. After teaching honors physics, honors chemistry and AP Physics 2 at a Jesuit college preparatory high school in Phoenix Arizona he moved with his family to Maryland to teach at Georgetown Preparatory School. Ramon teaches honors physics and AP Computer Science A at Prep. He is looking for students in Montgomery County who are interested being tutored in physics, chemistry and math. Ramon feels comfortable tutoring AP Physics 1 and 2, AP Chemistry, AP Computer Science A as well as Physics and Chemistry. He is bilingual and comfortable tutoring in both English and Spanish.

Robin Coach

Robin attended MCPS schools her entire life. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Government and Politics. Later, she felt the calling to teach and received a Masters in Elementary Education from Trinity College. Robin taught in MCPS for 23 years and retired in 2020. She was a 4th and 5th grade classroom teacher and later taught math to students in grades 2-5 at every level. She also specialized in teaching reading to students of varying levels in grades 3-5. Robin worked primarily in a school with diverse educational needs; she feels confident in teaching students who may have gaps in learning or learning challenges. She excells at finding routes to learning tailored to each child. During the pandemic, Robin was able to navigate virtual teaching and learning and discovered how useful it could be, especially for small groups or one-on-one instruction. As a long-term substitute, in 2020 and 2021, Robin provided whole class instruction, small group lessons, and special education pull-out groups, all in a virtual setting. Retirement is wonderful, but Robin still feels the pull to work with students, one-on-one, to reach their personal goals.

Sharon Coach

Sharon holds a Bachelor of Arts from Tufts University and Masters in Education from The George Washington University. She is a certified teacher in Maryland for grades 1-8. As the former center director for Sylvan Learning Center, Sharon trained and monitored teachers and tutors, assessed students, attendees IEP meetings, conferences with classroom teachers and tutored students in all subjects offered at the center. For the last eight years, she has been substitute teaching in MCPS in a variety of schools and grades. In addition to short term work, she held two long-term sub positions over this time in 5th grade and in a Reading Initiative classroom. These experiences have helped her to become very familiar with the MCPS elementary school curriculum, especially math and reading. Sharon had tutored students in math, reading, and writing as well as executive functioning skills including test preparation, organization and time management. She has always enjoyed working one on one with students and seeing firsthand how much they can improve with personal attention. She welcomes the opportunity to help new students reach their true potential.

Sinan Coach

Sinan is an experienced educator offering tailored support in math and science, executive functioning, and standardized test preparation. His subject expertise spans all math from Pre-Algebra through Multivariable Calculus, all mainstream sciences including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology, and Environmental Science, and effective preparation for the SAT, ACT, SSAT, HSPT, and GRE tests. He has intimate familiarity with content and delivery at all levels of rigor, including standard, IB/AP, and college, and he is skilled in adapting teaching methods to different student personalities and learning styles. This broad specialization comes from over ten years of experience as a high school teacher and private tutor for children, teenagers, and college students, as well as prior studies and work in mental healthcare. Sinan obtained a dual B.S. in Neuroscience and Psychology from New York University before working on a crisis hotline and residential behavioral care team. He draws on his relational skills to develop authentic connections that energize his students, to understand their unique thinking patterns and learning needs, and to build personalized strategies for their learning, performance, and long-term growth. Sinan’s holistic aim is to enhance his student’s academic achievements while also cultivating their interests, abilities, and confidence, and he is passionate about this mission of pursuing the success and well-rounded development of his students.

Susan Coach

Susan has been residing in the DMV for over 35 years. She is an experienced tutor with over 15 years of individual student tutoring experience. After graduating from Case Western Reserve University with a BS undergraduate degree and a MA in education with an emphasis in learning differences and clinic psychology, she worked for six years at the elementary level as a classroom teacher at a local public school system. A family move and an opportunity presented itself and her career took her in a different direction. With the arrival of children and her frequent travel demands, she decided to return to her roots and love of education. She was accepted into the Lab School of Washington Tutor Training Program where she spent a year refreshing and updating her educational skills. She is certified in Phono-Graphix and is trained in and has experience using the Orton-Gillingham and Wilson Language programs. She is excellent at connecting with students who have executive functioning and organization challenges and helps students apply these strategies to their academic subjects and homework assignments. She also trained with one of the area’s top standardized test-prep individuals and has prepped many students with academic struggles prepare for the SAT-ACT and SSAT exams. Although Susan began her career working with younger children – she has since expanded her knowledge and expertise to work with students of all ages in the areas of executive function, writing mechanics and fluency, research papers, reading strategies, and mathematics through Algebra 2. She finds value in each of the individuals she has helped.

Tessa Coach

With a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Tessa is an expert in her subjects and excellent at providing examples that resonate with her students. She has extensive experience as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics, Research Associate, Teaching Assistant and High School Teacher. Her education also includes Advanced Placement Institute Training for Calculus BC, Statistics, and Process oriented Guided Inquiry Learning. She has been a professional tutor since 2021 with the majority of her students in high school or college settings. Tessa has an unbridled passion for mathematics and its application, allowing her to inculcate a similar passion in her students. Reframing each student's mindset on math allows her to provide every student with the ability to realize their problem-solving potential.

Tim Coach

Tim attended Towson University, where he completed his BS in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and Bioinformatics, BS in Chemistry, and MS in Biology. During his undergraduate and graduate studies, he also completed his research thesis on the neurophysiology of taste cells in Gypsy moth caterpillars, which earned him two published peer-reviewed research articles. During his graduate studies, he discovered his love for teaching after he taught Medical Microbiology laboratory classes at Towson University. He then went on to work on a joint research project between a biotech company and the USDA for two years. When the project was completed, Tim decided to pursue a career in education. He made the transition to education at St. Vincent Pallotti High School, where he currently teaches AP Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, and Food Chemistry. While working at Pallotti High School, Tim has worked with the general population as well as a small subset in the Stephen J. Edmonds Educations Resource Center. Within this program Tim has gain experience implementing individual accommodations for students with specific learning disabilities including ADHD, Asperger’s syndrome, Tourette’s syndrome, expressive and receptive language delays and other learning disabilities such as executive functioning. He also has experience in teaching Biology and Honors Biology and mathematics including Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus.

Tom Coach

Tom is an experienced, passionate Physics teacher with over 10 years of classroom experience. He holds a Master's in Applied Physics from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and a Master's in Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. He is known at his school for his energetic and positive approach to teaching. Able to draw on work experience at NASA Goddard and the electrical utility company ConEdison, he is able to help students understand their day-to-day connection to material, deepening understanding by making the lessons more relevant in students' lives. With experience teaching conceptual Physics, Honors Physics, AP Physics C: Mechanics, and AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism, he is able to help physics learners of all levels, including those in introductory college courses.

Tori Coach

Tori received her B.A. in History from the University of Virginia and holds two M.S. degrees- one in Educational Studies from Johns Hopkins University and one in Educational Leadership from Florida International University. As an experienced and passionate educator, Tori specializes in executive functioning skills such as organization and time management, literacy, research skills, and history content. In her time in the classroom Tori has taught in a variety of settings including public, charter, and independent schools in Washington D.C., Miami, and Atlanta. Within those settings, Tori has designed and implemented specialized instruction and accommodations for students with varying needs ranging from ADD and ADHD, English Language Learners, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and anxiety and depression amongst others and holds a Special Education certification from DC. Content-wise, Tori has taught and tutored across the Humanities discipline including interdisciplinary courses, AP, and IB courses. A recipient of the IB Diploma herself, Tori is well-versed on the IB program and its requirements for assignments especially in History, English, ToK, and the Extended Essay after serving as the Extended Essay Co-Coordinator in one of her previous school settings. In her tutoring experience, Tori has tutored English, History, test prep, essay writing, and executive functioning skills. As a tutor, Tori has focused on each student individually and making sure that they have the skills necessary to be successful autonomous learners through collaboration with the student, families, and teachers. Vicki Coach

Vicki is a native of Montgomery Country and mother of three adult children. Originally from Bethesda, Vicki resides in Gaithersburg and supports students throughout Montgomery Country both virtually and in person. She holds a Bachelor degree from the University of Maryland in General Studies with an emphasis on Early Childhood education. After completion of a 90 hour daycare certificate from Montgomery College, Vicki supported early learners in a pre-school setting for many years until she transitioned to the MCPS school system where she has worked as a Special Education Para-Educator for the past 10 years. She has extensive experience with students who struggle with learning disabilities and has developed many strategies to engage learners while reinforcing concepts. Vicki R. Coach

Vicki created and taught the notable Log On to Success course and curriculum with a focus on Study Skills for Montgomery County Public Schools. She has helped hundreds of students over the past 16 years manage their time, organize their materials, assess their learning styles, and learn strategies to be successful academically and beyond school. She would love to share her knowledge and experience to guide elementary to college aged students to achieve success. As an MCPS educator and trained Restorative Justice coach, she believes each student with the right support can learn and reach their potential. She is both creative and analytical in her approach. She will assess what is working and collaborate to determine strategies to support each student’s needs. Vicki is actively supporting college students as an academic and executive function coach to help them to organize their time and learn critical note taking and advocacy skills in order to reach their full potential. Additionally, she has created curriculum for and taught math, Algebra, Computer Applications, Theater and Yearbook in her 30 year career. Vicki graduated from University of Delaware with a BA in Elementary Education and Middle School Math and earned a master's degree from Johns Hopkins University in Technology for Education. She lives in Montgomery County with her husband, teenage daughter and college-age twin daughters.

John G. Coach

John is a native of the DMV who graduated high school from the Field School in Washington D.C. in 2007 and then went on to graduate from Dartmouth College in 2011 with a degree in Religious Studies. Since then he has spent four years as a full time classroom teacher. For three of these years John was back at Field teaching 9th Grade English and 6th and 7th Grade Math and for one year he served as a full time volunteer 11th Grade English Teacher in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. In addition to this, John’s experience in education includes approximately two years of working as an independent tutor wherein he worked primarily with high school aged students on English and History but also with Middle School students on Math, Science and French. Thus, while his primary skill set as a tutor involves supporting middle and high school students as they grapple with their writing, he is also comfortable tutoring students in Math through Geometry, in Science through Biology and in French through the first 3 years of study. As a teacher and tutor, John has also worked closely with students with a myriad of learning differences including ADD and ADHD, executive function disorders and dyslexia. Finally, along with his time spent in education, John has worked as a camp counselor, he has lived and worked as a crew member running a rustic lodge in the mountains of New Hampshire, he has completed a work study program at a Zen Monastery, has hiked the entire 2,185 miles of the Appalachian Trail and just this past winter he completed a Master of Arts degree at the University of Chicago in which he primarily studied moral and political philosophy.

Kenna Coach

Kenna graduated from St. Mary’s College of Maryland in December, 2018 with a double major in Biochemistry and Biology, as well as a minor in Mathematics. As a recent graduate, Kenna is very familiar with good study habits, time management, note taking skills, and organizational work. While in college, Kenna was the teaching assistant (TA) for general biology and general chemistry in her second, third, and fourth year. She also worked as the study group leader for the DeSousa Brent Scholar program on campus. As a TA in college, Kenna has developed the skills to work with students on their different needs, whether it was remediation, reinforcement, or enrichment in any particular subject. Besides working at school, Kenna had plenty of experience tutoring math as a part time job since high school. Thus, her expertise in sciences and mathematics includes: regular Biology up to AP Biology, regular Chemistry up to AP Chemistry, Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Precalculus. Kenna hopes to become a pediatrician in the future, so she loves working with kids. She enjoys working with new students and providing guidance for them to not only do better in science and math, but to gain the knowledge for good study habits, time management, and the organizational skills that will allow them to be successful inside and outside of the academic setting. Kenna is available to tutor on a flexible schedule and has a reliable transportation to each tutoring session.
